Category: Power of authority and potential brute force
Case Study #1
Situation: A policeman stops you on the highway. He says you were speeding. (It doesn't really matter whether you were under the speed limit. And, say, you're unarmed.)
Analysis: The police obviously has power over you. He has a gun and is authorized to use it if he feels threatened. He could, if he wanted to: let you go; give you a ticket; arrest you; or, simply, kill you and get away with
murder, if he can justify it in court.
Category: Power of humans over animals
Case Study #1
Situation: A person walking a dog on a leash.
Analysis: The person obviously has almost total power over the dog, which, without the human, would almost certainly die. The human pretty much does what he or she pleases with the dog. [in progress] |
